Horses for Adoption - NEW LISTINGS !!

Currently we only adopt horses to people in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. We welcome horses and equines of all breeds and descriptions into the Rescue; the majority are Thoroughbreds, Quarter horses, Saddlebreds, Standardbreds, Arabians, drafts, ponies, mules and donkeys.

We have several young, healthy horses awaiting adoption, most only need a little training, patience and TLC to flourish in a new career. In fact, many of our adopted horses have become serious show competitors in a variety of disciplines, including hunter and eventing fields. Our goal is to find the perfect horse for your lifestyle, your home and your heart. We welcome prospective adopters to contact the Rescue for more information and to set up an appointment to meet the horses.

It is our goal to place horses into “forever” homes where they will be wanted and cared for properly for the rest of their lives. The adoption rules are straightforward: By adopting a horse from this Rescue, you agree to provide the animal with a caring, loving home, or return the horse to the Rescue in the event the horse needs to be placed in a new home. Adopters cannot breed, track race or resell any equine adopted from this Rescue. The Rescue retains legal ownership of every equine that comes to the rescue, for the rest of its life. This “Protective Ownership” stipulation allows us to legally reclaim a horse if at any time it is found to be in an unsatisfactory situation, and place it in a more suitable environment. This “tough love” rule may seem extreme, but it is intended to ensure the best possible adoption outcome horses and adopters.

The below pictures and corresponding write-ups provide only a basic idea of the present selection so please check often because we update the listing on a regular basis.

Please note:  If you need to return a Lost and Found adopted horse, please contact Gary Young at 703-675-6063

 JT's Roadster -
  • Age: 13
  • Standardbred (Pacer raced, 168 races)
  • Gelding
  • 16.3 hands

“Charlie”, as he is known at the rescue, is one BIG sweetheart. He has excellent manners when dealing with grooming, blacksmith, hauling and the vet (PERFECT). Charlie was rescued from slaughter, he came with a note that said "He was our on personal horse for 4 years. Woman can drive. Don’t need him anymore." We don’t think he will be hard to work with under saddle. Charlie would make a really nice family horse.

 Bugaboo - on hold
  • Age: 12
  • Standardbred
  • Gelding
  • 17 hands

Bugaboo was rescued from the slaughter pen.  He won alot of money in his racing career. He then went to live with the Amish as a road driving horse.  He has the wonderful quiet "Standy" disposition!  It would not take much to get him going under saddle.  He gets along with other horses, stands for hoof care, vet and grooming.

To get a Standy that has had that "Amish experience", you will not ever find a more broke horse.

  Sophie
  • Age:
  • Quarterhorse
  • Mare
  • 15 hands

This beautiful mare came to us spring 2012, pregnant and slaughter bound.  As you can see, she is a lovely roan. Not much is know about her past, but we do know she has not had much handling. Once her foal, Oliver, has been weaned, she will be ready for Sponsorship and/or Foster care.  We are looking for a Sponsor to help cover the costs of sending her to "basic training".  All training donations are tax deductible.

  • Thoroughbred
  • Gelding
  • 16.3 hands

Zen is a delightful OTTB. Easy keeper. Stands well for the farrier and vet. No stall vices. Kind and willing. He loves routine and being ridden regularly. Listens to voice commands. Has done ground work over poles and some small cross rails. He has a pin in one knee so his jumping limit is 2’ to 2’6” maximum. He has done some trail riding. He loves carrots, being groomed and lots of attention. His Jockey Club registration and lineage documents are also available. He is of Irish stock and has beautiful confirmation.

  Max -

  • Age: 7
  • shetland pony
  • gelding
  • 10 hands

They do not come any cuter than our little guy Max. Not only is he super cute, he is also super sweet! Good for the blacksmith, gets along great with other horses and ponies. Max is not the typical naughty little pony, he is a good boy. It was reported that Max is broke to ride, we cannot confirm this as we don’t have a little person small enough to sit on him. He was owned by the Amish, typical their ponies are broke to ride and sometimes drive. He is nice enough to do both. Max is up to date on everything!. He would make a super nice companion or leadline pony.

Makbar's Account
  • Age: tbd
  • Thoroughbred
  • Gelding
  • 15.2 hands

Macky is a fun little horse. He can go in the ring or out through the country alone or with company. Macky trail rides and crosses water. He is happiest leading, but will follow.

Macky has shipped around to school at the local horse shows and cross country facilities. He also did some hunter paces in the spring. We have found that more intense canter and jump work make his back sore, but he is happy and sound walking and trotting.

Macky gets along well with others in the field and loves to play!

Please contact Holly Gilmore to set up appointment to see Jelly Bean.

Currently in training at Tranquility Manor Farm. Please contact Holly Gilmore for details and information about adopting this horse:  410-913-1596 or 410-628-6531.

Ming Toy
  • Age: 17
  • Thoroughbred
  • Gelding
  • 15.2 hands

Ming came to us as a severe starvation case.  Since then, he has fully recovered and is back in work and is doing great. He will need an intermediate rider. He is sound, no vices and he gets along well with others in the pasture.  He is good for the farrier, clips well and is nice to work around.

UPDATE:  Has recently been training cross country.  Has successfully jumped 2'6 course; ditches, drops/banks, water, doing it all.  Pleasant to ride in and out of the ring.

Splash -
  • Age: 4
  • Paint Mare
  • 14.2 hands

Splash was sold for slaughter with a severely infected eye when we spotted her. Initially she went to Brandywine vet for treatment but her eye was not responding.  She was taken to the New Bolton Hospital to have her eye looked at. While there the eye ruptured and it had to come out immediately. She also developed colitis, she then spent several days in ICU due to internal problems. She needs to be on a very special diet. Splash could use sponsors to help cover her ongoing costs which are running very high. Please consider donating to help Splash.

Ideas in ways you can help. Funding to assist her recover, we have PayPal on our website or you can send a check to Omega Horse Rescue 8272 Woodbine Road Airville PA 17302. Gift cards to Tractor Supply (she is on a special diet of senior feed and alfalfa pellets). Payments made for her initial bill at Brandywine Vet (484-798-7837) They accept credit card, check or PayPal. Any gift, no matter how small, will help us get Splash on her feet again. Thank You!  Stay tuned for frequent updates.

  Mary's Saint
  • Age: 7
  • Thoroughbred
  • Mare
  • -- hands

Mary walks/trots/canters and can jump around a course of 2' to 2'3" jumps. She is super honest to the jumps. Mary has been ridden alone and with company. She is still green, but very willing and a quick learner.

Mary has schooled around the cross country course at Tranquility, including ditches, banks and water. She has done some trail riding, but does not have as much experience there as she does in the ring.
